We love our dogs like they are our children. When they are in trouble, we are in trouble. While they try their best to behave themselves, they can find their way into mischief when we least expect them to. Our fur babies are always getting into trouble. They are rascals!

Whether they are getting into the leftover pizza that you left on the kitchen counter or trying to eat food straight out of your hand, these animals have been known to help themselves. That’s why we have prepared this list of common household items that you need to be keeping out of their reach.

For some of these items, the prospect of keeping them away from your dog is common sense. Others may not be so obvious. Be sure to read on and learn more…

1. Common House Plants

You may not have been aware of the fact that your most common house plants could spell doom for your pup. Peonies, daffodils, tulips, azaleas, and mums should be kept out of the home for safety purposes. Many of these flowers are going to look wonderful in the home but they place your dogs directly in the line of danger. If you have a dog that loves to climb all over the furniture, be sure to keep this in mind.

2. Washer Pods and Dishwasher Pods

Fur babies tend to love squishy toys but these pods need to be kept away from them at all costs. These items should fall under the common sense category. There is no circumstance where these pods should be left in an area of the home where they can be accessed by your four legged friends. Pods like these are very poisonous and need to be kept away from your dogs. They love to chew and do not know any better.

3. Chocolate

Most dog owners are well aware of the dangers of chocolate. However, there are some who are unaware of the most important facts. All it takes is a tiny amount of chocolate to cause a fatal reaction in your pet. Take the time to stash all of your candy bars in a safe place. The side effects that will take place if your dog accidentally consumes some of your chocolate are better off being avoided.

4. Insecticide

This is one of the most powerful poisons that you are going to have on hand. As such, it makes sense to keep them far away from your dog. Once summer rolls around, it is easy to forget about this fact and keep these poisons in a place where they are readily accessible. Take the time to put the insecticide away after each and every use. If you are spraying them inside of the home, take your dog for a nice, long walk once you’re finished. Otherwise, they may lick it up soon after.

5. Alcoholic Beverages

There are some dog owners who believe that it is funny to give their pets a sip of booze. It is the furthest thing from funny and it’s a practice that you need to be avoiding at all times. There’s no reason to give your dog alcohol. Your pet is not going to get a fun buzz and the animal is likely to get violently ill. Dogs who consume alcohol often having immediate breathing difficulties.

6. Toothpaste

Humans are able to consume toothpaste without difficulty but dogs are not so fortunate. Toothpaste is rich in xylitol, a chemical that is very harmful to your pet. All it takes is a small amount of toothpaste to cause a massive drop in the animal’s blood sugar level. In some cases, toothpaste consumption can even lead to death.

20 Year Old Golden Retriever

Dogs have rightfully been called man’s best friend and they have been a staple of human civilization ever since the first wild dogs were domesticated. Dogs serve as captions for us humans, but they also can help us do our jobs, protect us, entertain us, and comfort us. It is little wonder why dogs are one of the most popular pets in the US and indeed around the world. Many people today enjoy having dogs as members of their family.

However, the sad truth about our canine companions is that they do not live nearly as long as the average person. The average lifespan for dogs that have been domesticated is around ten to twelve years or so. Of course, there is no way to predict the exact number of years a specific dog will live. This is because there are many factors that go into affecting a dog’s lifespan including care, environment, health factors, and what breed it is. For the golden retriever breed, they usually align with the accepted average lifespan quite well with most hitting at least 10 years and relatively few passing 13 or so.

Occasionally, there will be a story about a golden retriever who hits a milestone birthday of 15, 16, or even 17. But one good girl has recently blown all of the known records out of the water. August is a sweet and very old golden retriever who lives with her humans who affectionately call her Augie. She just celebrated a birthday recently and it was her 20th!

As far as any records show and according to all research done up to this point, Augie is the oldest golden retriever in the world. She also has the distinction of quite possibly being the only golden retriever to have ever reached their 20th birthday, which means she may be the oldest retriever ever! There aren’t any others on record anywhere passing the 19th birthday mark.

Augie was born more than 20 years ago on April 24, 2000. Twenty years seems like a relay long time and it can be hard to really grasp how long this dog has been alive. Twenty years is two decades. To give a framework for how long ago this good girl was born, Bill Clinton still held the position of US president, Gladiator was crushing box office records and sales that year, and gamers in North America were still waiting for the release of the new Playstation 2 console! Augie has seen a lot in her 20 years and she has been well-loved and cared for by her human family.

She celebrated her milestone birthday with her siblings and her human family members. Her treat for her special day was a dog-friendly carrot cake which she enjoyed greatly and was happy to share with her siblings.

The adorable photos that can be found online were shared by the GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue. They are the rescue group who found Augie a furever home when she was already a good ole girl at the age of 14. Who knows what other records this beautiful girl may break next year!

Yucatecan Casque-headed Tree Frog

It is a big, wide, open, and insane world we live in. From giant birds who can’t fly to snakes that can, there are many strange, beautiful, terrifying, and downright odd things in the world. Animals come in all shapes and sizes and each one has a role to play in the delicate balance of nature. It is time now to take a momentary break from your normal reading and scrolling in order to appreciate a very tiny and very cute species of frog.

While it is true that there sadly are some people feel that toads and frogs are terrifying and can never ever be cute, there are some species who may win over even the cold-hearted individuals. Small cute and unique, this is a frog that may even tempt the haters to soften a bit and give it a smile. How can you not when it smiles at you like this!

This oh so tiny and unique frog is a Yucatecan Casque-headed Tree Frog, scientifically known as Triprion petasatus. They live in Central America and are native on the Yucatan Peninsula and the surrounding areas. These frogs have a unique overall shape and size and a head that is unlike any other frog on the planet. To understand the look of this frog, we can gather some clues from the meaning of its name. “Casque” means “helmet,” which is obvious when you take a close look at the head of the frog. You can actually see a line where the usual plump body and skin of the frog meets the back of the very bony head. It really does look like this frog is wearing a tiny little helmet of some kind.

The helmet-like head is not the only thing that makes this frog so unique. The overall shape of the head gives it a long and narrow face and mouth that is very unusual for memes of the frog and toad family.  Many people use the term “Duck Face” to describe how this frog’s face and mouth look. The smile the frog gives makes it look like its lips are puckered and cheeks sucked in and is ready for a great selfie. So stinking adorable!

Like many animal families on the planer, this cute little duck face frog has a close family relative. However, you should not confuse these cuties with their cousin, Bruno’s Casque-headed Frog, Aparasphenodon brunoi. While the Yucatan species is cute and adorable and very photogenic, the Bruno’s Fog is highly poisonous!

These two frogs do look a bit alike, but the deadly ones are a lot larger and are much more aggressive. They will actually lunge towards attackers to headbutt predators. This allows them to inject the venom into their attacker with the use of tiny spikes that cover its head!

Thankfully for frog lovers, the cute and safe Yucatan species is very alive and well and currently is at no risk for extinction. In fact, they are very popular in the pet trade. However, if you hav fallen in love with the Yucatecan Casque-headed Tree Frog and want to get one or two of your own as pets, make sure you are buying only from a reputable breeder and dealer. Illegal pet trades and shady sellers can take frogs from the natural population in too high or numbers and can end up depleting natural populations which can lead to endangerment issues. A reputable pet dealer and breeder will safely and legally collect adults, breed frogs to sell, and will ensure the health and quality of life for their animals.

So read up on these adorable frogs and find a place to get one of your own and now that you know about them, be sure to spread the word about the Yucatecan Casque-headed Tree Frog!

Research shows that many children develop emotional connections with family pets, especially dogs. Two young children: Mame and her brother Mugi have developed a connection with their grandmother’s giant poodles, Riku, Gaku, and Qoo. For several years, the family has documented the journey on social media. The earliest photos of this special connection was shared on Instagram when Mame was only a year old.

Mugi’s grandmother used social media to document the family’s closeness. Many of the pictures show Mame, Mugi, and the poodles dressing in unique attire, having fun outdoors, and other general cuteness. Each of the dogs has their own unique characteristics. Qoo is the oldest, and takes responsibility for leading and guiding everyone. The middle aged dog Riku is very easy going and enjoys regular activities. The youngest dog Gaku is full of energy and fun. There is never a dull moment when Gaku interacts with the children. Despite all of the different personalities, the family gets along well.

Mame and Mugi’s grandmother Tamenegi says that she never intended for her grandchildren and pets to become social media stars. Tamanegi started posting pictures on IG after her son got married and her daughter in law became a part of the family. Tamanegi planned to use social media as a way to document the family’s experiences. Once she saw that her poodles were becoming popular with followers, she decided to showcase them more. Once Tamanegi’s granddaughter was born, everything came together.

The cute combination of Tamanegi’s grandchildren and pets started attracting thousands of followers on a regular basis. As the Instagram page continued to gain popularity, it caught the attention of musical legend Beck. Beck became such a huge fan of the photos that he asked Tamanegi if the children and pets could be a part of his next music video.

Initially, Tamanegi didn’t believe it. However, after speaking to Beck’s representatives, it was confirmed that the musician had interest in having the family in his music video to help market the release of his new album. Tamanegi says that she was incredibly honored that her family had the opportunity to participate in such a special moment. Tamanegi says that the video shoot was unique because everyone was so full of energy. However, there were no issues over the two day video shoot. Mame, Gaku, Qoo, and Riku wore multiple outfits during the video shoot. Beck says that he is grateful to Tamanegi for letting the family be a part of the video shoot.

While Beck did not participate in the video, he did meet the family when he invited them to his concert in Tokyo. Beck met with the family backstage. Tamanegi says that Beck has a pleasant personality. As Tamanegi’s Instagram continues to grow, she looks forward to documenting more adventures of Riku and Gaku bouncing on a trampoline, as well as Mugi and Mame trying their hand at cooking. You can follow along at Tamanegi.qoo.riku on Instagram.
